Cora Mae Bryant makes her home in Oxford, Georgia and is the daughter of the
great bluesman Curley Weaver known in his day as "the Georgia Guitar
Wizard." Born in 1926, Bryant not only carries on her father's memory but is
also a torchbearer for the Georgia blues tradition. At the time of her birth
Georgia, and particularly Atlanta, was teeming with great bluesman like
Blind Willie McTell, Barbecue Bob, Buddy Moss and many others. Bryant met
many of those great players and obviously learned her lessons well.
"Born in Newton County "is a stunning record featuring exceptional guitar
playing that owes a strong debt to her father but also to his frequent
partner Blind Willie McTell. Cora covers two of her father’s songs, some of
Blind Willie McTell’s, Barbecue Bob and four of her own compositions.
The Foundation has been able to help Cora Mae for several years with her
Glaucoma medicine every month. We were able to convince her to fly one time
and she performed at the Chicago Blues Festival. At 77 years of age Cora Mae
is content to perform around the Atlanta area and is very proud to issue
this CD and is busy writing more songs.
